Antique, Belle Époque, 18ct Gold, Spinel and Diamond Cluster Ring – Vintage Ring – Antique Ring Boutique
£6,500.00
Spinel and diamond ring, circa 1900. Spinels are superb and historically important gemstones, particularly prized by Mughal emperors. Often found alongside its more famous rivals ruby and sapphire, spinels were only recognised as distinct stones in the 18 th century, and several important examples, such as the ‘Black Prince’s Ruby’ in the British Crown Jewels, were since recognised as spinels. The 6 carat unheated spinel in the centre of this ring showcases a beautiful, cool violet shade, commonly referred to as ‘lavender’, which has become one of its most celebrated and sought after colours. This stone is set in a beautiful early 20 th century open work mount, set with early circular-cut and rose-cut diamonds in millegrain borders, with a beautiful scrolled gallery to the reverse that is curved to sit comfortably on the finger, making it perfect for everyday wear.
