Pink sapphire fancy cluster ring. Pink sapphires are chemically identical to rubies and take their colour from the same element – chromium. Distinguishing between the two is the subject of much debate, but the rule of thumb is that pink sapphires display an attractive bright pink hue that reads as pink, whereas rubies, while often with pinkish undertones, must read overall as being red. This cushion-shaped pink sapphire, of particularly good clarity and a beautiful floral colour, is set within an antique 19th century mount designed as a crowned flower, like an orchid, set with cushion-shaped diamonds and accented with tiny rose-cut diamonds, which add a glint of light between the settings.
